A product of the St Mirren youth system, Chris Smith made his first team debut for Saints in a First Division match against Ross County at St Mirren Park on April 30th, 2005 - recording a shut-out performance.

The following season he made his mark as he shared the goalkeeping duties with the more experienced Tony Bullock. With Saints forging their way towards winning the First Division Championship, Smith came on to replace the somewhat nervy and out-of-sorts Bullock for the final 28 minutes of the game against Dundee - a match which ended with Saints as First Division Champions.

The next season in Saints return to the SPL, Smith started out as the number one keeper but after six games he was dropped to the bench and replaced by Bullock. A dip in form by Bullock let Smith back into the frame midway through the season and he held on to the starting position by more than proving his worth over the final 15 games of the season.

Chris spent most of last season as deputy to keeper Mark Howard but he did get his chance to stake a claim for the "No 1" shirt but after a run of six starts he picked up a freak injury which resulted in him requiring surgery to replace his anterior cruciate ligament and to have repair work done to his lateral collateral ligament.

Has been capped for Scotland at Under 21 level.

Chris went on loan to Dunfermline last December but picked up an injury after only three appearances for the East End Park side.  But he is now back to full fitness and is also back out on loan with the Pars until the end of this season.

The following table shows the player's St Mirren related stats across all competitive games in the following competitions; SPL, SFL First Division, Scottish Cup, League Cup and Challenge Cup.

Starting Appearances: 90
Substitute (used): 2
