U19: St Mirren 1-0 Dundee United
St Mirren Under 19's stretched their run of unbeaten games to five thanks to an excellent 1-0 victory against Dundee United at McKenna Park this afternoon.
The young Saints were decimated with injuries as Thomas Reilly, Graeme Ramage, Joel Kasubandi, Hashim Cole and Sean Burns all missed out but on the upside Jamie McKernon made a return from injury to get back to Under 19 duty.
This also gave David Longwell a chance to give outings to some of his Under 17 squad - with five taking part in the game at some stage.
After a goalless first half - which the young Saints dominated - they got their just rewards in the second half when 15-year-old Declan Hughes went on a great run from midfield before striking a shot across the keeper with his left foot for a great finish.
United came back into the game but David Longwell's side defended really well to make sure that they claimed all three points.
David Longwell (St Mirren's Head of Youth Development) said after the game: "The boys were excellent today as they controlled the majority of the game and in the first half they passed the ball about really well.
"As a team they all did very well as there was nobody that you could fault over the 90 minutes.
"A very good work ethic, great attitude and application from what was an extremely young side - so all-in-all it was all positive today.
"I was delighted with them as they all did very well in what was one of our better performances this season."
The Under 19's next outing will be on Monday, November 8th when they will face Partick Thistle in the SFA Youth Cup. The game will be played at St Mirren Park and will kick-off at 7:00pm.
