U19: St Mirren 3-3 St Johnstone
The Under 19 side had to battle back from being two goals down today at McKenna Park to earn a share of the points against St Johnstone.
The young Saints didn't start the game too well with the Perth Saints looking sharper than their hosts.
St Johnstone raced into a two goal lead by the 25 minute mark but Kenny McLean pulled a goal back and four minutes before half-time Bradley Coyne pulled the Paisley Saints level again.
St Mirren were the better side in the second half but it took until the 92nd minute for them to reap the rewards of that dominance when Bradley Coyne scored his second goal of the day.
But having made the comeback just about complete, the visitors got a corner-kick straight from kick-off which David Longwell's side failed to clear and St Johnstone pounced on the opportunity to equalise with the last kick of the ball.
David Longwell (St Mirren's Head of Youth Development) said after the game: "It showed a lot of character for the boys to come from 2-0 down to eventually take a 3-2 lead but to lose a sucker-punch goal at the absolute death is a bit of a blow.
"The boys switched off a bit but they will learn from that and to be honest, at 2-0 down we would have taken a 3-3 draw.
"Even though we didn't start too well today the overall performance was good and it came on the back of a good performance from last week.
"It was disappointing that we lost Jamie McKernon to injury in the first half. On the up side, we gave young Declan Hughes his first start for the Under 19 side, he is only 15 and plays with the Under 17 side, he played in the middle and played the full game - he did well today."
