U19: Motherwell 0-1 St Mirren
A second half goal from Kenny McLean gave St Mirren Under 19's their first win of the season yesterday afternoon as they recorded a 1-0 victory against Motherwell at Creamery Park in Bathgate.
The young Saints lined up as follows; McKinven, Ramsay, Trialist, Kennedy, Naismith, Frances, Coyne, McLean, Ramage (Hughes), McKernon, Burns (Lamont).
David Longwell (St Mirren's Head of Youth Development) said after the game: "I'm really happy as the boys' determination, application and attitude were really excellent. They passed the ball really well and it was a terrific victory that the boys thoroughly deserved, it was all very positive.
"It was good to get the first victory but it probably should have been by a wider margin than 1-0.
"It has been a hard start to the season and without wanting to make excuses we have had more than our fair share of injuries. But, to be fair to our opposition in the opening three games, Hearts were excellent and both Rangers and Aberdeen were much better than decent.
"The pleasing thing about the win against Motherwell wasn't just the victory, but how the boys have bounced back after such a tough start to the season to come up with such an excellent performance.
"Our boys more than deserved that victory and hopefully it is something that will help them kick-on and take confidence into the games over the next few weeks and beyond."
The Under 19's are back out in action next week when they will play host to St Johnstone at McKenna Park.
