U19: St Mirren 0-4 Aberdeen
by Andy Conway at McKenna Park.
Saints' youth team returned from their travels hoping to kick-start the campaign in their first home game of the season. But an impressive Aberdeen side were more than a match for Saints and left a sunny McKenna Park with all three points.
In the early stages of the game, Aberdeen were making most of the chances. Saints' goalkeeper Michael McKinven was seeing a lot of the ball, though the defence were restricting Aberdeen to shots from distance. At the same time, Saints were making very few chances and Dons keeper Lukasik was raely troubled.
While it looked like Saints might weather the first half storm, they were hit by a double blow in the last few minutes of the half. On the 42nd minute, Aberdeen broke down the right wing and crossed for McRobbie, who took a touch and finished calmly from eight yards out.
Before Saints had a chance to recover, Aberdeen's Sorenson hit a speculative shot from 20 yards that deflected off a defender and decieved McKinven on its way to the back of the net.
Half time: Saints 0-2 Aberdeen
Saints made a couple of changes for the second half, with Joel Kasubandi coming on up front and Hashim Cole slotting in at right back. Saints looked a bit steadier as they started the second half, but Aberdeen's defence were coping well with Saints efforts. Cole looked particularly enterprising as he pushed forward on the right side and put over a few decent crosses.
Aberdeen stepped up the presure, though, scoring a third goal that seemed to come from nowhere. Jordon Brown picked the ball up around thirty yards out and drifted a glorious long range effort over McKinven.
With thirteen minutes left, Aberdeen's Devaney finished the scoring with another long range effort. All in all, this was a tough game for Saints and Aberdeen ran out deserved winners. Saints are left still looking for their first points of the season.
Full time: Saints 0 Aberdeen 4
Man of the Match: Midfielder, Kenny McLean. Worked hard in midfield and played some precise long passes.
