Yesterday afternoon St Mirren played a closed doors game against Partick Thistle and manager, Danny Lennon is pleased with how his younger crop of players are progressing.

He said, "The youngsters who took part made a very good account of themselves as they showed progress in their development as players.

"To be honest I have been really delighted with the progress of the kids, I've been really impressed with some of the young players we have coming through here.

"It is important that they continue to get the opportunity to play alongside the more experienced players as that will really help the development of their game further."

The game also gave the chance for new signing Nick Hegarty and Steven Thomson - who is returning from injury - to get some valuable playing time.

Danny said, "Nick Hegarty did well, particularly in the second half and he scored a goal. He did struggle a wee bit in the last 10 or 15 minutes of the game, but he hasn't played a lot of football lately so we have just got to get his fitness levels up.

"Another plus was that Steven Thomson came through the game unscathed so he looks to be on the road back from injury. Michael Higdon and Paul McQuade are both making slow progress from their injuries but the main thing is they are progressing."

A few trialists took part in yesterday's game and Danny confirmed the status on their progress.

He said, "We haven't invited Amick Ciani back in, he had been on trial with us and we also watched him over a couple of bounce games.

"Andre Martins played and scored for us in yesterday's bounce game, and we have asked him to stay with us for training for a few more days so that we can have a further look at him. He'll also take part in a bounce game against Kilmarnock that we have organised for next week.

"Likewise we have given the same invitation to Michael McGowan who is now on trial with us."

The Saints gaffer also confirmed that things are moving in the right direction with David Barron in terms of negotiations on a new deal.

He said, "I had a talk with David this morning and I'm really hopeful that we will get back around the table to start negotiations again by the end of this week."
