As many fans no doubt noticed, on entering the turnstiles for Sunday's game against Hibernian we had stewards checking fans' tickets and smart cards.

While we appreciate this action was an inconvenience to our fans unfortunately it had to be taken as we were led to believe that some adults were using concessionary tickets and smart cards that they didn't qualify for. Sadly, on the results of the check that has turned out to be the case.

We find it very disappointing that people who claim to be fans of the Club would stoop to such levels to gain entry to the game. St Mirren Football Club are well aware of the financial burden on our fans in following the team especially in the present financial climate which is why our ticket prices are just about the lowest in the SPL.

As a Club we offer schemes to try and make things a bit easier financially for our fans to come along; freezing ticket prices again, credit pay-up scheme for Season Tickets and free child Season Tickets for the family stand and low cost ones for the other stands.

We do appreciate that it is only a minority who are trying to enter the stadium by fraudulent means and that the vast majority of our fans pay the full amount for their match day tickets and Season Tickets - your support can't be under-estimated.

Unfortunately we intend to maintain this ticket check for future games and while it will only be a short delay in getting into the stadium we apologise for the inconvenience that this may cause and we also appreciate your support as we look to tackle this very disappointing issue.

Brian Caldwell,
General Manager
