The St Mirren Under 19's headed to Murray Park this morning for a Clydesdale Bank U19 League match-up against Rangers which the Glasgow side won 1-0.

The game was settled by a goal from Kane Hemmings just before half-time when the Rangers striker took advantage of a goalkeeping error by Adam McHugh.

David Longwell (St Mirren's Head of Youth Development) said after the game: "It was a much improved performance from the boys today, although Rangers were the better side and worthy of their half-time lead.

"In the second half we competed much better but couldn't get a goal, our best chance falling to young Jason Naismith who headed over the bar a few yards out from goal.

"After his first half error, Adam McHugh redeemed himself with a couple of really good saves in the second half."

The Under 19's are back out in action in two weeks time when they will play their first home game of the new season, playing host to Aberdeen.
