St Mirren were knocked out of the Co-operative Insurance Cup tonight by Ross County, losing 4-3 on penalties after a 3-3 draw after extra time.

It's an early exit for the Buddies this season, who made it to the final last season, and manager Danny Lennon is disappointed with the final result: "It's a long journey home tonight and we are disappointed as we got ourselves into a good position to begin with.

"We also started the second half brightly, but it was disappointing that when Ross County were on the attack we looked vulnerable."

Danny continued, "Take nothing away from Ross County tonight, at times they played very good football. They stretched us and they also had quality in their side. On the other hand though, we had ourselves in two very good positions coming back into the game."

Lennon added, "Ross County scored an excellent free kick by Richard Brittain but we did well and came straight back into the game."

Paul McGowan was probably the best player on the park tonight for St Mirren, creating many chances and getting a goal.

Lennon commented, "Paul McGowan had a good game, he is lively and will make things happen in the game. Paul just wants the ball and to make things happen in the game, and managed to get a goal tonight."
