Danny's Diary - 26/07/2010
This afternoon Sean Lynch became Danny Lennon's latest signing when he put pen to paper on a one year deal, and the Saints' gaffer knows he has a player with qualities who will add to the squad.
He said, "Looking at how Sean has come in and handled himself during the pre-season he certainly deserves his deal.
"I have no doubt that he will be a very good addition to the squad - this isn't just about eleven players, you need a bit of depth in there and I think Sean will also add a bit more quality to the mix.
"A big thing for us is that Sean also has the personality and character to go in there with the quality players that we have for that team spirit."
Danny is aware that Sean has something to prove and he is confident that St Mirren can benefit from that desire to succeed.
He said, "At 23, Sean is still a good age and he has shown great character in his career to now. He left Hibs to join John Hughes at Falkirk to get an opportunity but he ended up being part of a cost cutting exercise at the end of last season.
"Sean has had a few knock-backs but hopefully having a chance to settle here he will kick on again."
As Saints get set to head to Greenock for tomorrow's Renfrewshire Cup final, Danny confirms that the squad will be close to 100%.
He said, "Gareth Wardlaw and Craig Dargo will both be available for tomorrow night's game.
"Both players trained with the physio this morning and we had them back in with the other players in this afternoon's session so they will be in the squad."
As a local derby match goes the Renfrewshire clash is no shrinking violet and Danny is more than aware of what tomorrow's game means.
He said, "I'm very much looking forward to the game against Morton tomorrow night. This is a game nobody will see as a friendly as both sets of fans and Clubs will go into it wanting to do well and win.
"I know what this game means to our supporters so be assured we are very determined to make sure we keep hold of the Renfrewshire Cup.
"I've been told that both clubs have won the cup 51 times so that puts another wee edge on to it for tomorrow night's game but it is important that we don't lose our focus as we try to retain the cup."
