U19: 3rd/4th Place Match Update
David Longwell's Under 19 side bounced back in style today from yesterday's semi-final defeat to Annbank United by winning 4-0 against host club Lugar Boswell Thistle in the 3rd/4th place playoff match in the Jim Baird Memorial Tournament at Rosebank Park.
Kenny McLean opened the scoring for the young Saints with a well struck long range shot that took a deflection on its way to the back of the net.
Next up was Jamie McKernon who finshed off a good run from midfield with a neat finish.
Thomas Reilly then fired Saints 3-0 up with a well placed shot then the youngster added another goal with a terrific header placed well away from the goalkeeper.
David Longwell said of the game, "Jamie McKernon and Graeme Ramage both missed yesterday's game so it was good to have them back in the squad for today's match.
"This was a much better performance from the boys today as they worked really hard, played really well in spells and created a fair number of chances.
"The whole weekend has seen the boys pick up some invaluable experience, so it has been a great exercise for them.
"We would also like to thank Lugar Boswell for their hospitality over the weekend."
The St Mirren Under 19 side's next outing will be next Saturday (July 31st) when they will face Irvine Meadow Juniors at Meadow Park. Kick-off will be at 2:00pm.
