A national campaign aimed at educating young people about the dangers of carrying a knife and the devastating personal consequences that can have is being launched in Renfrewshire.

'No Knives, Better Lives' is a national youth engagement initiative which aims to give young people good reasons not to carry a knife, showing them that it's not worth the risks or consequences, and helping to shape positive attitudes and influencing positive life choices by promoting diversionary activities.

The initiative is being rolled out to Renfrewshire after a successful pilot in Inverclyde and launches in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Clackmannanshire earlier this month.

The local Renfrewshire 'No Knives, Better Lives' programme will be launched at the Safer and Stronger Renfrewshire Street Football Tournament which takes place at St Mirren Football Club in Paisley on Saturday 17th July 2010.
