Street Football - Celebration Event
In just over a year of running the Street Football programme there have been well in excess of 14,000 children participating at the sites where the St Mirren Community Coaches set-up the mobile pitches - events which have shown a dramatic downturn on reports of youth disorder in these areas.
On Saturday, July 17th an event will be held at St Mirren Park which will reflect the success of the award winning Street Football Future Diversionary Programme project that St Mirren Football Club have played a big part in.
The event will be spread over the West Stand car park and the three 5-a-side parks next to the North Stand with a Street Football tournament being part of the day.
While the Street Football tournament takes place there will also be many more sports and events for you to experience which will include; a football skills zone, street rugby, the Renfrewshire Youth Bus, the Mobile Gym Bus, a climbing wall, a skate ramp, basketball, The Box, a bouncy castle, DJ booth, tennis, Strathclyde Fire & Rescue, Strathclyde Police and information stalls.
St Mirren manager Danny Lennon said of the event: "We are delighted to be hosting the Street Football Tournament here at St Mirren Park.
"Since my arrival at the Club, I have heard a lot about the amount of excellent programmes that are done by St Mirren within the local community. The Street Football programme has already been given a community award and is a fantastic programme as well as being well known throughout the whole Renfrewshire area.
"Over the years football skills have been developed through practice and many a quality player has come from playing street football in their youth.
"St Mirren Football Club are delighted to be heavily involved within the programme and it is only fitting that St Mirren Park hosts the Street Football tournament.
"I am sure everyone attending will have a great day whether playing or watching the action.
"Enjoy your day!"
