New Directors Co-opted on to Board
Two new directors have been co-opted on to the board of St Mirren Football Club.
Richard Atkinson, a director of the Maxi Group, has become St Mirren's Commercial and Development Director. Lawyer, Chris Stewart, partner with a firm of Glasgow solicitors, also joins the Board as a Director and Company Secretary.
The present Company Secretary Allan Marshall will retire from this position, but remain a Director.
A 52 per cent stake in St Mirren has been put up for sale by a consortium of shareholders. Mr Atkinson and Mr Stewart represent a group who, with the support of the consortium, are investigating the feasibility of a community-led purchase of these shares.
The consortium whose shares have been put up for sale are - Chairman, Stewart Gilmour; Vice-Chairman, George Campbell; Directors Allan Marshall and Bryan McAusland and Evelyn Purves, widow of former Director, Jim Purves.
Stewart Gilmour, said: "There is no agreement in place to sell our consortium's shares to any party.
"Naturally, we would investigate thoroughly any potential offers for our majority shareholding.
"To this end, the two new appointments to the board gives Mr Atkinson's group the opportunity to develop their proposals and at the same time use their business knowledge to develop new income streams for St Mirren.
"Despite suggestions made in some quarters that the Club will elect a President, St Mirren has no plans to do this.
"Neither are there plans to have a subsidised bar in the void space at the north end of the main stand. We are still considering our options for the use of this space."
