Last night St Mirren played in a no-scoring draw against Hamilton Academical. Gus MacPherson was pleased with 50% of the game but disappointed that his side missed out on the potential chance of enhancing their league placing.

He said, "I wasn't particularly happy with the way we played in the first half as we looked a wee bit flat after the emotions of the Falkirk game.

"The second half performance was better so much so I was disappointed that we didn't score as we created two or three really good chances.

"The Hamilton keeper had a couple of good saves and we hit the woodwork as well so I'm a wee bit disappointed that we didn't score as it would have been nice to go into Saturday's game against Aberdeen with the possibility of moving another place up the league."

Two omissions from last night's squad were midfielders Andy Dorman and Steven Thomson. Gus confirmed they picked up knocks, he also updated things on the disciplinary front.

He said, "Andy Dorman picked up a hamstring strain so we decided to not take a chance on him last night and Steven Thomson picked up a neck injury at training on Tuesday which is why he missed the game. We'll see how they progress in the lead up to Saturday.

"The booking Michael Higdon picked up last night means that he will miss the first two games of next season although he will be available for the game against Aberdeen on Saturday.

"Chris Innes served his one match suspension last night and will also be available for the Aberdeen game."

With St Mirren now assured of being in the SPL next season it is hoped that off the field matters will be progressed as soon as possible but as yet there is nothing to report.

Gus said, "I've still to have a chat with the Chairman so we are no further forward with contracts and preparations for next season."

On Saturday Saints play their final game of the season when they face Aberdeen at St Mirren Park. Gus reckons that it may be an end of season game but there is still plenty to play for.

He said, "Saturday is our last home game as well as the last game of the season and it is important that we are doing all that we possibly can to win the game.

"A lot of people will cast it off as a meaningless game but the players know what they will be playing for and we'll make sure that they are focused towards the game.

"There is also professional pride at stake which is an important attribute and if you want to remain in sport for any length of time that is something you must show and have in abundance - I don't think that can be questioned of our group of players.

"Let's not forget that we also need a point to be assured of 10th spot in the league.

"We are competing in a game which is at home against a team that are going through a turbulent spell at the moment but they still have very good players and with it being the last game of the season they will be wanting to finish it on a high - as will we."
