U19: St Johnstone 1-0 St Mirren
St Mirren Under 19's recent run of good form came to an end this afternoon at Stirling University where they went down 1-0 against their counterparts from St Johnstone.
Despite the Paisley Saints dominating the match a goal from David Heagney for the Perth Saints 2 minutes before half-time meant the points would go back to McDiarmid Park.
David Longwell (St Mirren's Head of Youth Development) said after the game: "I don't know how we managed to lose this game as the boys had more than enough chances to win it.
"In the first half the St Johnstone goalkeeper was in really good form as he blocked off four great chances and when we did manage to get the ball past him it came rattling off the crossbar and on another occasion one of his defenders cleared it off the line.
"I think it is fair to say that St Johnstone's goal came against the run of play. And to be fair to them they went on to defend very well in the second half as we created quite a few more chances.
"Once again their keeper was in inspired form and despite our boys throwing everything towards their goal they couldn't get the goal that their play merited.
"Overall the boys were very good today and were much so the better side. I was pleased by their performance and attitude but disappointed with the result as the boys deserved so much more from the game."
The young Saints final game of the season will take place next Monday (May 3rd) at McKenna Park where they will face Rangers. The game will kick-off at 1:00pm.
