The St Mirren Under 19's recent run of victories came to a shuddering halt this afternoon as they went down 3-0 against their Motherwell counterparts at Creamery Park, the home ground of Junior side Bathgate Thistle.

David Longwell (St Mirren's Head of Youth Development) said after the game: "This was a really bizzare game as we played well at times and created so many chances. But the Motherwell keeper was in good form with a number of really good saves and on the couple of occasions when he didn't get to the ball in time it was cleared off the line by a defender.

"We also hit the crossbar but the bottom line is we didn't take our chances and Motherwell did. Some of these chances came before Motherwell opened the scoring, but overall mistakes killed us and we defended poorly.

"We did have a bit of a blow when Ally Love went off injured after only 10 minutes as he was a big loss.

"The boys did everything they could to try and get back into the game but they just couldn't get the break that they needed.

"We gave away silly goals today but that will serve as a big lesson for the boys as they head into the SFA Youth Cup semi-final against Rangers a week on Sunday."
