Gus' Monday Thoughts
There had been reports over the weekend about a bust-up between the players and the Board of Directors over bonuses but manager Gus MacPherson threw cold water over the reports.
He said, "We had a meeting two weeks ago with the Board and it is absolutely ridiculous to suggest that the players are at war with the Board.
"A meeting took place and things were explained to the players, under no circumstances are the players at war."
On Saturday St Mirren battled out a goal-less draw with Rangers in the 5th Round of the Active Nation Scottish Cup. Gus reckons his side were more than due a re-match.
He said, "I think it was an even contest. In a lot of ways it was a typical cup tie as it was very tight with very few clear cut chances.
"That being said, in the second half we looked the most likely side to break the deadlock as we put Rangers under pressure for quite a period of the half.
"As usual there is always the threat when Rangers have the firepower sitting on the bench - players like Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller. But even when they came on I thought we continued to be reasonably comfortable.
"There is no question that we deserve another crack at Rangers in a replay."
Gus is happy to confirm that his players came through the game with a clean bill of health but his squad will be a man down for the visit of St Johnstone on Wednesday evening.
He said, "I'm pleased to say that we have no fresh injuries to report on - so it is still only Tom Brighton and Chris Smith who are on the injury list.
"The only other player not available to us for the St Johnstone game will be Steven Thomson as he has picked up a one match suspension. His booking in the league match against Rangers a couple of weeks has put him over the disciplinary points threshold."
