U19: Hearts 3-4 St Mirren
The Saints Under 19 squad just got back from Turkey late last week but they had to go out on SPL Under 19 duty on Saturday morning when they headed to the east of the country to face their counterparts from Hearts.
The young Saints raced into a 3-1 first half lead thanks to a brace of goals from Jon McShane and a strike from Mark Lamont.
Hearts struck back in the second half as they clawed the game back to 3-3 but Jamie McKernon restored the lead before the 90 minutes was over to help his side record an impressive victory.
David Longwell (St Mirren's Head of Youth Development) said after the game: "Considering we just got back from Turkey on Thursday this was a great result and performance from the boys.
"In the first half we did really well as we created a lot of chances so it was really pleasing to be 3-1 up at half-time.
"Hearts pulled themselves back level in the second half but the boys showed great character by lifting their game and getting the winner.
"We had more chances to add to our lead but to be fair our keeper Jake Cunningham also made some really good saves to stop Hearts from getting back into the game.
"This was a really hard working performance from all of the team."
