U19: St Mirren 1-2 Hamilton
This afternoon St Mirren's Under 19 side lost 2-1 against their counterparts from Hamilton Academical at McKenna Park.
Goals on the 23rd and 38th minutes gave Accies a two-nil lead but Kenny McLean pulled Saints back into the game 5 minutes from half-time when he netted direct from a free-kick.
The young Saints were well on top in the second half but despite hitting the woodwork twice they couldn't manage to pull level.
David Longwell (St Mirren's Head of Youth Development) said after the game: "We started the game really well but after the ten minute mark Hamilton were the better side and they deserved their lead.
"The goal from Kenny McLean just before half-time was a really well taken free-kick.
"In the second half the boys did much better but unfortunately, despite being on top for most of the half, they couldn't get another goal. We had efforts that came off the post and crossbar so I think for our second half performance we probably deserved a draw but we couldn't get the break we needed.
"I'm obviously disappointed with the loss and the first half performance but I was really happy with the way the boys responded in the second half."
